Ag Business Solutions leads the Dairy and Agriculture industry in the oversight of business operations located throughout the Midwestern United States. Our staff of Certified Public Accountants and highly degreed professionals, with over 50 years of experience, provides daily administrative and accounting services through direct interaction with ownership and on-site management. The financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting services that we provide allow ownership and management to make timely and accurate decisions on operations. Our sophisticated and ever evolving IT services allow us to offer support to multiple dairies and cattle operations throughout the country. In addition, our ability to assist producers in managing price risk in the areas of livestock, feed, and milk truly sets us apart.

Ag Business is seeking a candidate that is motivated, versatile, and highly organized. The main duties of this position will be serving as Controller for dairy operations, and various other companies.

Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CMA preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including both public accounting and private industry experience preferred
  • Prior experience in agricultural, manufacturing, or other operationally intensive industries strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including performance management and training
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to analyze complex processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls
  • Experience partnering with operations and senior leadership to provide financial insight and decision-support in a service-oriented environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with accounting/ERP systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
  • Demonstrated initiative, ownership mentality, and a positive, collaborative leadership style
  • Willingness to learn, evaluate, and implement new technologies and process improvements

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close Process

  • Prepare and oversee monthly financial statements for multiple dairy operations, including detailed account analysis, budget-to-actual variance analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review quarterly financial statements for real estate entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to GAAP.

Team Leadership & Review

  • Supervise, mentor, and direct the work of accounting staff and senior accountants, including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, inventory costing, and fixed asset schedules.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and review procedures to ensure data integrity and compliance with company policies.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Develop, implement, and maintain annual operating and capital budgets across dairy and real estate operations.
  • Monitor performance against budgets and provide management with meaningful variance analysis and actionable insights.

Operational & Project Accounting

  • Oversee accounting and financial reporting for new construction and capital projects, including cost tracking, capitalization, and financial analysis.
  • Partner with on-farm managers and operations leadership to stay informed on operational changes, production trends, and business needs that impact financial performance.

Cash Management & Daily Finance Operations

  • Work closely with the Group Controller and accounting team on daily financial activities, including cash management, intercompany funding, and invoice review and approval.
  • Ensure sufficient liquidity and proper allocation of funds across entities.

Audit, Tax, and Compliance

  • Coordinate year-end close activities and prepare schedules and documentation required for external financial statement audits and CPA-prepared tax returns.
  • Research and document accounting treatment for complex or non-routine transactions to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Analysis & Strategic Support

  • Perform financial modeling and analysis for key business decisions, including return on investment (ROI) analysis, fair market value (FMV) assessments, ownership structure changes, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Lead or support special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Travel

  • Occasional travel is required to support operations, typically 1–2 days semi-annually to dairy locations around the Midwest.
