Controller

Pathfinder Systems
Holland, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 5/22/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/22/2026

About the Position

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to join our team and oversee the company’s financial and human resources operations. In this role, the Controller will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This individual will be instrumental in maintaining the company’s financial stability while providing strategic insights to support executive decision-making and drive business growth.

The Controller will also play a critical role in tax management, foreign currency and banking activities, HR administration (including multi-state payroll and personnel compliance), and overseeing financial transactions with external parties, including auditors, tax accountants, and vendors. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives in a small business environment where leaders naturally wear multiple hats. While this position functions fully as a Controller, it requires actively executing daily bookkeeping and accounting workflows, with the objective of optimizing and scaling these processes so they can be seamlessly shifted as departmental resources are re-distributed in the future.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in accounting, financial management, human resources, and business operations. If you are a dedicated, results-oriented professional passionate about financial integrity and operational excellence, we encourage you to apply.

Job Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategic Oversight:

  • Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, forecasts, and budgets while providing insightful analysis to guide executive-level decision-making.
  • Prepare and manage tax filings and annual audits to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax accountants, financial institutions, insurance providers, and vendors.
  • Oversee the company's foreign currency and banking activities, including purchasing and selling, monitoring exchange rates to optimize transactions and reduce financial risk, maintaining accurate records of all currency transactions for reconciliation and audit purposes, as well as managing commercial insurance and corporate risk.
  • Create and implement robust accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, company guidelines, and industry best practices, promoting accuracy, consistency, and continuous operational improvement across the organization.

Financial Operations & Process Optimization:

  • Manage full-cycle daily accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank accounts and credit cards, processing multi-state payroll and sales commissions, month/year-end closings, job costing, and work-in-progress (WIP) tracking. Ensure accurate, timely management reporting, assist with tax preparation, and ensure strict compliance with local regulations.
  • Establish standardized, efficient operational workflows within these daily processes to ensure all transactional tasks are structured for long-term scalability.
  • Oversee cash flow activities, including the daily processing of deposits, wire transfers, and accounts payable, ensuring accurate and efficient transaction management to maintain financial liquidity and operational continuity.

Human Resources & Departmental Support:

  • Manage key HR functions, including employee onboarding, payroll processing across multiple states, benefits administration, and maintenance of accurate personnel records, ensuring seamless HR operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting employee visa applications on an as-needed basis, coordinating with external legal counsel to ensure compliance with immigration regulations, and facilitating smooth processing of all necessary documentation.

General Professional Expectations:

  • Preserve the highest level of confidentiality while maintaining professionalism regarding personal, financial, and business matters and manage unique situations with the utmost discretion.
  • Perform related job duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is a plus.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a Controller, Senior Accountant, or Dual Finance/HR role is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, financial reporting, budgeting, and risk management strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience handling or overseeing HR practices, multi-state payroll, and corporate compliance.
  • Experience with foreign currency exchange processes is highly preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.

Attributes:
