Job Summary:
The INS Technician performs testing, troubleshooting, calibration and repair/overhaul on various inertial navigation systems.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Inspects, installs, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, configures, calibrates and services electrical equipment such as INS’s, gyroscopes, accelerometers and platform (gimbal) assemblies.
- Diagnose mechanical or electrical problems
- Complete teardown, overhaul and calibration
- Understand and follow electronic schematics
- Read maintenance manuals to identify repair procedures
- Replace defective parts using hand tools, power tools and soldering
- Inspect completed work to ensure that it meets performance standards
- Keep records of maintenance and repair work
- Test electronic instruments, using circuit testers, oscilloscopes, and voltmeters
- Assist engineers in projects and research and development
- Provide solutions to technical problems
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience in system-level testing and verification.
- Experience with inertial measurement and/or guidance and navigation.
- Experience with rate tables, multi-axis positioners, thermal chambers, simulators, precision power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes.
- High attention to detail and repeatability; disciplined checklists.
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- Time management under production pressure; prioritize multiple units/stations.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years of experience in testing or troubleshooting instrumentation
- Strong technical skills and ability to interpret test procedures and specifications.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a work station and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
