Aegis is seeking a Contractor to join our client's organization in Chicago, IL (60609). The ideal candidate has the following skills and experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related science field.
• Masters Degree in Molecular biology, biotechnology, or Biochemistry w/ at least 3 years of working experience as well.
• 3 years of experience working in molecular biology.
• 3 years of experience in a lab setting
• Strain engineering experience- modification of microbial strains (like bacteria, yeast, or fungi) to improve or introduce desirable traits—commonly for research, industrial, agricultural, or pharmaceutical applications.
• RNA sequencing experience- RNA extraction, library preparation, sequencing, data analysis, and visualization
• Also DNA experience would be ok but, it is a bit of a different extraction process
• Need to be able to extract RNA from cells.
• Experience designing and executing molecular biology experiments to modify fungal genomes, including gene knockouts, knock-ins, overexpression studies, and gene editing.
• RT-PCR experience
• Quantitative PCR (qPCR)
• Proven expertise in fungal transformation, gene editing, and metabolic engineering.
• Documentation experience- able to maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures, data, and outcomes.
• Experience with reporting- preparing internal reports and presentations summarizing findings for team meetings and external communications.
• Must be able to work an open ended contract position. - at least 3 months.

Nice to have:

• Experience working in a YEAST lab setting would be very helpful.
• Anyone who has worked with organisms.
• PHD in Molecular biology, biotechnology, or Biochemistry- can be someone who just obtained their PHD and is ready to begin work.
• Additional experience.
