What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metrologist Technician position at Aegis Worldwide?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Metrology & Measurement
- Perform dimensional and metallurgical evaluations, including sectioning samples, mounting, grinding, polishing, microhardness testing, and microstructure evaluation.
- Conduct superficial and Rockwell hardness examinations across various part geometries.
- Review customer specifications and establish/control limits on part tolerances.
- Maintain, verify, and calibrate hardness testers, microhardness equipment, and other measurement devices.
- Perform calibration and cleaning of the Leco carbon determinator.
- Review and implement SPC chart recording; apply statistical methods to monitor process stability.
Heat Treat / Furnace Support
- Inspect parts exiting furnaces; assist with production sample pulls.
- Conduct pyrometry activities including:
- System Accuracy Tests (SAT)
- Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS)
- Check dew point on generators and monitor furnace atmospheres.
- Maintain chemical balance in wash systems and verify wash solution concentrations.
- Check for water contamination in quench tanks.
- Gather and document oil samples for batch and pusher furnaces.
Quality Systems & Documentation
- Assist in writing and updating PPAP documents and restricted process change forms.
- Generate quality reports, inspection data sheets, and trend analyses.
- Maintain all Quality Center documentation, inventories, and supplies.
- Support internal audits and customer-driven quality requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Quality Center.
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing; occasional walking or sitting.
- Must lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 25 lbs frequently.
- Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Regular use of hands for handling parts, tools, and precision instruments.
Work Environment
- Occasional work near mechanical equipment.
- Moderate noise environment typical of industrial/heat-treat facilities.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, heat-treat areas, and occasional contact with chemicals.
