Industrial Maintenance Technician

Location: Madison, WI

Job Type: Full

Shift: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shift Available

Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Industrial Maintenance Technicians to support a high-volume, heavy manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining production equipment, automated systems, machinery, and facility equipment to maximize uptime and support safe, efficient operations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical and electrical maintenance background, with experience troubleshooting hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, PLCs, robotics, and industrial automation.

Shift Opportunities
  • 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

  • 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

  • Some flexibility with first-shift start times may be available.

  • Significant overtime is currently available, averaging approximately 10–20 hours per week, including occasional weekend work.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform emergency machine repairs and rebuild equipment as needed throughout the facility.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated systems.

  • Diagnose electrical issues using schematics, blueprints, and electrical diagrams.

  • Troubleshoot equipment operating at voltages up to 480V.

  • Replace motors, rewire equipment, and perform electrical repairs.

  • Utilize PLC interfaces to diagnose equipment problems.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain industrial robotics and automation systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair CNC equipment and automated machining systems.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and support TPM activities.

  • Maintain and repair production and support equipment.

  • Assist with equipment installations, repairs, rebuilds, and improvement projects.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and work records.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Work independently or provide direction to small groups when needed.

  • Perform other maintenance duties and projects as assigned.

Equipment & Systems

Technicians may work with a wide variety of heavy industrial and automated equipment, including:

  • Large aluminum die-casting machines

  • CNC machines

  • Automated machining cells

  • Industrial robots and robotic systems

  • CMM equipment

  • Metal stamping equipment

  • Trim presses

  • Shot blast equipment

  • Heat-treat equipment

  • Conveyors

  • Hydraulics and pneumatics

  • Die lubrication systems

  • Cooling water systems

  • Air compressors

  • Ovens and furnaces

  • Electrical controls

  • VFDs

  • Sensors

  • PLCs

  • Automated production systems

Required Skills & Experience

Candidates should have experience with all three of the following:

  • Hydraulics

  • Blueprint / schematic reading

  • Electrical troubleshooting

Additional experience with the following is highly preferred:

  • 480V electrical systems

  • Motor replacement

  • Equipment rewiring

  • PLC troubleshooting

  • VFDs

  • Industrial robotics

  • Automation

  • CNC equipment

  • Preventive maintenance

  • TPM

The ideal candidate will be stronger electrically while still possessing solid mechanical troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.

  • Technical school diploma in a related field preferred but not required.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Must be comfortable troubleshooting both electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

  • Must be comfortable working in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Candidates with experience in the following industries are encouraged to apply:

  • Foundry / die casting

  • Automotive manufacturing

  • Machine shops

  • Fabrication

  • Food and beverage manufacturing

  • Industrial manufacturing

  • Warehousing / logistics with strong maintenance experience

  • Other heavy industrial environments

Millwrights with the appropriate electrical, hydraulic, blueprint reading, and industrial maintenance experience are also encouraged to apply.

Work Environment

This is a heavy manufacturing environment and is not a climate-controlled facility. Employees may be exposed to:

  • Excessive heat and cold

  • Noise

  • Dirt and dust

  • Grease

  • Smoke

  • Molten metal

  • Moving machinery

  • Industrial equipment

  • Working at elevated heights

  • Awkward working positions

Candidates should be comfortable working in a physically demanding industrial environment.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, and work in awkward positions.

  • Ability to work at elevated heights when required.

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 70 pounds.

  • Ability to safely work around heavy machinery and industrial equipment.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $28–$43/hour, depending on experience.

  • 5% shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts.

  • Overtime paid at 1.5x after 40 hours.

  • Sunday overtime paid at 2x.
