What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Aegis Manufacturing & Engineering?
Are you a seasoned maintenance professional with a strong background in plastics manufacturing? If you're ready to take ownership of your craft while helping a growing operation evolve from a shop to a full-scale factory, we want to hear from you.
About the Role:
A well-established manufacturer of plastic and recycled rubber products is seeking a Lead Maintenance Mechanic to join its first-shift team. This is a key opportunity to step into a leadership position at a pivotal moment, with the company actively transitioning its maintenance approach to a more proactive, process-driven model.
You’ll be leading a team of four technicians and working directly with a variety of molding machines, including Graham and Davis Standard blow molders, Engel injection molding equipment, and extrusion lines. The facility, approximately 109,000 sq ft, is a bit on the tighter side and not climate controlled—but what it may lack in bells and whistles, it more than makes up for in flexibility, culture, and opportunity for growth.
What You'll Do:
Be the go-to expert for troubleshooting and repairing blow molding equipment
Provide hands-on leadership to a team of 4 maintenance technicians
Handle mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues across molding and extrusion machines
Support mold changes, equipment modifications, and bracket fabrication
Guide the team in transitioning to preventive maintenance practices using CMMS (MaintainX)
Interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics
Assist in sourcing parts and managing maintenance documentation
What You Bring:
10 years of maintenance experience in a plastics manufacturing setting
4 years of direct blow molding experience (Graham and Davis Standard strongly preferred)
Solid mechanical troubleshooting skills—especially with hydraulics and schematics
Leadership experience in a hands-on maintenance role
Nice to Have:
Experience with Engel injection molding or extrusion processes
Familiarity with PLCs, preventive maintenance systems, and CMMS
Welding/fabrication and machining (mill, lathe) skills
Bilingual English/Spanish
A passion for mentoring junior team members
Why This Role?
While the facility itself presents some challenges—limited space, a noisy and non-climate-controlled environment—this is an incredible opportunity to join a company with a true family-style culture and a flexible work-life balance. Occasional weekends, flexible start times, and a leadership team that understands the value of family life are all part of the package.
Even better? You’ll be stepping into a role that’s essential to the future of the operation. The current lead mechanic—who’s been with the company over 40 years—is nearing retirement. This is your chance to take the reins, influence the future of the shop, and be part of a team that’s building toward something bigger.
Interview Process: One-and-done, onsite
**Hours: ** 1st shift, 6-2:30, 7-3:30 (straight 8, 5-6 days a week), pretty flexible based on people’s needs.
