What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Automation Controls Technician (Allen‑Bradley) position at Aegis Manufacturing & Engineering?
Industrial Automation Controls Technician (Allen‑Bradley)
Stoughton, WI | 1st Shift | Full Time | $28–$38/hr
Aegis Worldwide has partnered with a manufacturer of slow‑release medication coating systems to add a hands-on controls expert to the team in Stoughton.
A day in the role
You start your 1st‑shift morning reviewing overnight alarms and maintenance tickets. A call comes in from the Indianapolis facility—you remote into an Allen‑Bradley PLC and quickly diagnose an intermittent input. By mid‑morning, you’re on the floor in Stoughton tracing a wiring issue, updating a schematic, and loading a revised HMI screen. After lunch, you assist maintenance with a controls-related repair, then commission a small system upgrade aimed at improving uptime. You close the day documenting program revisions, backing up code, and noting follow‑ups for preventive tasks. When needed, you travel on‑site to Indianapolis to resolve issues hands‑on.
What you’ll tackle
- Diagnose and fix control system issues across PLCs and HMIs to reduce downtime
- Handle wiring, panel work, installation, and commissioning of control equipment
- Provide remote support to the Indianapolis site and travel for on‑site assistance as needed
- Assist Stoughton maintenance with electrical/controls repairs and improvements
- Execute preventive maintenance and roll out control system upgrades for reliability and efficiency
- Partner with engineering and maintenance to solve complex problems and drive improvements
- Keep documentation current—schematics, wiring diagrams, control narratives, and program changes
- Work safely and uphold all quality and regulatory standards
What you bring
- HS diploma/equivalent plus 2 years in maintenance, or an associate’s degree with 1 year related experience
- 2 years in electrical controls/automation environments
- At least 1 year of formal training or certification in electrical, high voltage, HVAC, or similar technology
- Manufacturing background: facility or machine maintenance, equipment installs, and preventive maintenance
- Hands-on Allen‑Bradley PLC and HMI experience, including programming and troubleshooting
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Comfortable with electrical and mechanical tools
Why this role
Shape the reliability of specialized manufacturing equipment while growing your Allen‑Bradley expertise. You’ll work across two sites, collaborate with talented engineers and maintenance pros, and see the direct impact of your solutions on uptime and product quality.
