What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hancock County CASA Coordinator position at Advocacy Network for Children?
Purpose: To recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteers to speak in the best interest of abused, neglected and dependent children in the court system.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree preferred and/or experience in volunteer services
- Candidates offered the position must pass reference and criminal background checks.
- Ability to effectively communicate with and empower volunteers to perform their roles successfully
- Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crises relating to child abuse and neglect
- Knowledge and understanding of juvenile court process
- Skills in the following areas: decision-making, creativity, initiative, innovation, leadership, foresight, willingness to increase responsibilities to achieve program goals and commitment to agency goals
Job Duties:
Under the direction of the CASA Manager,
- Assist in the recruitment of prospective CASA volunteer advocates through a variety of avenues including media advertising and community organizations
- Assign CASA volunteers to cases referred by the court, taking care to match the advocate with the child
- Maintain records of all CASA cases and volunteers
- Attend court hearings and meetings associated with CASA cases appropriately
- Ongoing contact with CASA volunteers, keeping CASA volunteers apprised of upcoming court dates and other meetings
- File and distribute CASA reports to the court
- Process and document background checks on volunteers
- Attend community networking meetings as required
- Complete and compile statistics for all activities, case data, volunteer demographics and complete required statistical reports for funders
- Assist in training prospective CASA volunteers using the approved National CASA training curriculum
- Assist in developing the new CASA volunteer training schedule
- Schedule and coordinate in-service training and education programs for CASA volunteers. Attend in-service trainings and education programs
- Assist with public relations as required
- Assist with Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) advocacy in Hancock and McDonough Counties
- Be available for volunteers at times other than scheduled office hours
- Other duties as assigned
