Location: Westminster, MD
Pay: $21 - $24 per hour
Overview:
The Quality Technician II plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with AS9100D, ISO 9001, customer requirements, and regulatory standards. This position supports First Article Inspections (FAI), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), internal and supplier audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge with problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and maintain quality procedures in accordance with QA Work Instructions, QA Manuals, and internal Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
- Support all departments in achieving quality, manufacturing, and performance objectives.
- Lead or assist with Material Review Board (MRB) activities for dispositioning nonconforming materials.
- Manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) by documenting, tracking, and verifying resolutions.
- Conduct root cause analyses, problem-solving initiatives, and continuous improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, PFMEA, Pareto, 5S).
- Analyze quality metrics to identify trends, prevent defects, and drive process improvements.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain to resolve Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs).
- Develop and maintain supplier scorecards to monitor and improve supplier performance.
- Perform, review, and approve First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102.
- Provide training to operators on inspection criteria, gaging, and quality documentation.
- Conduct in-process, product, and internal process audits; support customer and third-party audits.
- Promote a safety-first and quality-focused culture throughout the facility.
- Communicate recurring issues or deviations promptly to supervisors and engineers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall quality function.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to learn new skills quickly and work with limited supervision.
- Strong customer service orientation and collaborative mindset.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred.
- 3 years of relevant quality experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in mechanical and non-destructive inspection and testing.
- Experience operating inspection and measuring equipment and interpreting manufacturing drawings.
- Familiarity with ISO 9000 and/or AS9100 quality standards.
- Previous quality control or quality assurance experience within a manufacturing setting is highly desirable.
- ASQ certifications (CQE, CQA, CMI, or equivalent) preferred.
- Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma tools and methodologies.
