Food Safety & Quality Specialist (2nd Shift)
Location: Onsite, Geneva, IL 60134
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM (Minimal Overtime)
Pay: $24.50/hour 10% shift differential ($26.95 an hour)
Duration: 6-month contract with potential for permanent hire
- New Grads with any type of science degree are welcome to apply
- Will Train on 1st shift for the 1st month
Position Overview
The Quality Systems Specialist is part of the Food Safety branch of the Quality team, responsible for supporting environmental monitoring, quality systems, and food safety compliance within a manufacturing environment. This role is highly hands-on and requires working directly on the production floor, collecting samples, analyzing data, and ensuring accurate documentation to support regulatory and internal quality standards.
This is an independent 2nd shift role, where the specialist will take full ownership of quality-related activities during the shift while collaborating cross-functionally with maintenance and quality teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect environmental and product swab samples (yeast, SPC, etc.) on the production floor for testing
- Perform on-site lab testing, including ATP and allergen testing
- Send samples to off-site laboratories and track results
- Analyze lab data and trends, identifying potential quality or food safety issues
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation and records (critical to the role)
- Conduct environmental monitoring and on-site audits
- Support problem-solving and root cause investigations
- Track and analyze quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Collaborate closely with maintenance and quality teams to resolve issues
- Participate in and support cross-functional quality and process improvement projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field (Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, etc.)
- Open to candidates with science or food industry background
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data tracking skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities on 2nd shift
Additional Details
- Training: 1 month on 1st shift before transitioning to 2nd shift
- Interview Process: 1-hour onsite interview (panel with lab and manufacturing team)
- Work Environment: Combination of lab and manufacturing floor
- PPE Provided: Steel toe shoes provided
