Daily Responsibilities
- Review blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine machining requirements and part dimensions
- Select appropriate metallic and nonmetallic materials and prepare stock for machining operations
- Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, drill presses, band saws, and shapers
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Fabricate, fit, and assemble components using hand tools and machining equipment
- Operate machinery to test performance and diagnose mechanical issues
- Perform preventive maintenance, lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs on machine tools and equipment
- Design and construct jigs, fixtures, and special tooling to support machining operations
- Maintain inventory of materials and order supplies as needed
- Document equipment usage and maintain accurate production records
- Assist in estimating time and material requirements for machining assignments
- Support training efforts for junior machinists or shop personnel as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of experience assisting or working as a machinist in a machine shop environment
- Strong knowledge of machining methods, tools, and equipment
- Understanding of metal properties and machining characteristics (aluminum, steel, brass, stainless steel, cast iron, etc.)
- Experience using precision measuring tools and shop mathematics
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical specifications
- Hands-on machining skills and ability to set up and operate machine tools independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with dip braze assemblies and rotary joints
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in tool fabrication and assembly work
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, precision-focused manufacturing environment
