Prototype Machinist / Advanced Machining Technician
Location: Wilmington, MA

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Prototype Machinist / Advanced Machining Technician to join our team in Wilmington, MA. This is a hands-on, non-production role focused on supporting engineers with prototype development, specialized machining, and complex rework of unique components.
The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic workshop environment, enjoys problem-solving, and has experience working with a variety of materials and precision machining techniques.
Work Environment
- Workshop setting (can be noisy)
- PPE provided and required
- Collaborative environment working closely with engineers and technicians
- Not a production line—focus is on custom, one-off, and prototype builds
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, layout, set up, and operate a variety of conventional and automatic machining equipment
- Perform precision machining using blueprints, process sheets, and technical sketches
- Cut, shape, and modify metal and plastic components to tight tolerances
- Execute rework and modifications on existing parts and assemblies
- Work on prototype and custom hardware projects alongside engineering teams
- Inspect and verify machining operations to ensure compliance with specifications
- Pin and assemble multiple materials and components as required
- Support fabrication, sheet metal work, and mechanical assemblies
- Provide feedback and recommendations on materials, design improvements, and manufacturability
- Mentor and support less experienced machinists as needed
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant machining experience
- Strong experience with prototype or custom machining (non-production)
- Proficiency in planning, setup, operation, and tool adjustments for machining equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and process documentation
- Experience working with multiple materials and precision assemblies
- Familiarity with Acu-Rite or similar digital readout (DRO) systems
- Strong inspection skills with a focus on tight tolerances
- High level of attention to detail and craftsmanship
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with unique or specialty materials
- Background in fabrication, sheet metal, or mechanical assemblies
- Prior experience mentoring or training other machinists
