GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Referral Coordinator is responsible for processing referrals, such as diagnostic tests, specialist referrals, etc. per insurance guidelines in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Consistently maintain proper documentation within the EMR regarding the referrals & its details.
- Diligently notifying and following up with patients and external entities as needed within a timely manner regarding their referral(s).
- Responsible for scheduling and follow up with internal specialty referrals.
- Benefit verification, prior authorization submission and scheduling of internal radiology tests.
- Responsible for answering inbound phone calls in a pleasant manner.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with external entities.
- Responsible for pulling and returning voicemails within 2 hours.
- Maintains HIPAA.
EDUCATION
- High school diploma / GED Certification.
EXPERIENCE
- Three to five years’ work experience with referrals.
KNOWLEDGE
- Working knowledge of insurances and referral protocols.
- Strong office and computer skills, experience with paperless workflows.
- Prior use of practice management and EMR programs.
- Work independently while maintaining a positive attitude.
SKILLS
- Skilled communicator and ability to work effectively in resolving problems.
- Solid organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
