Lathe Operator

Scope of Role

The Lathe Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating a Hurco CNC lathe, as well as performing machining on manual lathes and related equipment. This role requires strong knowledge of CNC programming (conversational and/or G-code), blueprint reading, and machining processes to produce high-quality precision parts that meet specifications.

Education, Experience & Technical Skills Requirements

·         High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in machining or CNC programming preferred

·         Minimum 2–3 years of experience operating CNC lathes and manual lathes

·         Experience with Hurco CNC machines (preferred)

·         Proficiency in CNC programming (conversational and/or G-code) and machine setup

·         Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, speeds, and feeds

·         Experience using machinist tools and precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges)

·         Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

·         Ability to work independently and follow safety protocols

Job Functions & Responsibilities

·         Program, set up, and operate Hurco CNC lathe to machine parts to specification

·         Develop and edit CNC programs to optimize efficiency and accuracy

·         Set up and operate manual lathe for secondary operations, prototypes, and low-volume work

·         Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and job requirements

·         Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for each job

·         Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks

·         Maintain tight tolerances and ensure high-quality finished parts

·         Machine parts using manual equipment, including Bridgeport as required

·         Troubleshoot machining or programming issues to minimize downtime

·         Maintain a clean and organized work area and perform basic machine maintenance

·         Verify all work meets quality standards before completion

·         Includes all other duties as assigned
