What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAD Designer Engineer position at ADK?
Join the Team That Builds What Others Only Imagine
At ADK, we don’t just build spaces — we bring visions to life. As a commercial general contractor with in‑house custom millwork expertise, we’ve spent more than two decades earning a reputation for delivering complex, design‑driven projects across hospitality, office, retail, and high‑end residential environments.
Our clients come to us with bold ideas. We turn those ideas into reality with craftsmanship, precision, and a relentless commitment to quality.
Now, we’re expanding our design and engineering team — and we’re looking for a CAD Designer / Engineer who thrives at the intersection of creativity, technical mastery, and architectural detail.
Who You Are
You’re a designer, an engineer, a problem‑solver, and a builder at heart. You understand how great millwork is crafted, how it’s installed, and how it transforms a space. You can take a sketch, a rendering, or a concept and turn it into something real — something buildable.
You’re energized by custom work, unique challenges, and projects that require both imagination and precision.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be the technical backbone of our millwork process — transforming design intent into accurate, production‑ready drawings that guide fabrication and installation.
Your Impact
- Produce detailed shop drawings and 3D models that bring architectural concepts to life
- Take precise site measurements and translate them into accurate, buildable documentation
- Engineer complex custom fixtures, integrating mechanicals and solving constructability challenges
- Prepare CNC‑ready files and support production workflows
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, architects, and clients to ensure clarity and alignment
- Provide material, hardware, and finish recommendations that balance design, cost, and performance
- Support estimating with accurate takeoffs and cost insights
- Navigate multiple projects with confidence, organization, and a commitment to deadlines
What You Bring
- 5 years of experience as a designer, drafter, or millwork engineer
- Strong understanding of architectural millwork, cabinetry, and custom fixture fabrication
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Swood, and Microsoft Office
- Ability to nest and prepare drawings for CNC production
- Experience in a woodshop or finish carpentry environment (preferred)
- Experience drafting architectural steel (preferred)
- A creative eye paired with technical rigor
- A valid driver’s license
How You Work
- You’re detail‑obsessed and accuracy‑driven
- You communicate clearly and professionally
- You collaborate well but can also run independently
- You adapt quickly to shifting project needs
- You think ahead — anticipating challenges before they appear
- You thrive in a fast‑paced environment where craftsmanship and deadlines both matter
Where You’ll Work
- Primarily in our office environment
- Occasionally on active construction sites for measurements or coordination
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- 401(k) with employer contribution
- Paid time off paid holidays
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- The chance to work on some of the most unique and design‑forward projects in the region
- A team that values craftsmanship, creativity, and long‑term relationships
