We’re seeking a board-certified orthopedic surgeon for short-term locum coverage in Waterloo, IA, providing inpatient and call-only services. Shifts are 24-hour on-call (0700–0700). Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are provided.

What the role looks like:
- Provide on-call inpatient coverage for both Waterloo and Cedar Falls Medical Centers.
- Respond to any call that comes into the facility (this is required).
- Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and consult on orthopedic patients of all ages.
- Perform surgical management for trauma, infections, tumors, degenerative disease, and other musculoskeletal conditions involving the spine, hands, feet, knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow.
- Assess and stabilize patients in emergent situations and determine appropriate disposition; may provide ICU care per unit policy.
Patient and volume details:
- All ages accepted
- Average daily volume: 10–20 patients
- Case mix includes orthopedic trauma, spine, hand, foot, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, etc.
Facility and support:
- Level III trauma center
- EMR: Epic Enterprise
- Support team includes 4 Advanced Practice Providers
Requirements:
- Board certified in Orthopedic Surgery
- Fellowship trained and experienced
- Active Iowa medical license or participation in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC)
- Clean malpractice and background history; Self-Query NPDB report required
- Must be able to cover all three scheduled blocks
