Overview
We’re seeking a locum tenens medical oncologist to join inpatient coverage in Richmond, Indiana, starting September 1, 2026 and continuing ongoing. You’ll work closely with APPs and the multispecialty hospital team to manage adult oncology patients, provide telephone call coverage, and travel to two outreach clinics weekly.
Schedule & Call
- Clinical schedule: Tuesday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (1-hour unpaid lunch). Mondays off.
- Night and weekend call: Telephone-based; provider comes to the hospital only if requested by the APP. Specific night/weekend call days and rotation details TBD. Telephone availability is required while on call.
- Coverage begins 9/1/2026.
Clinic & Travel Requirements
- Winchester clinic: every Wednesday.
- Hagerstown clinic: every other Thursday (1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month).
- You’ll travel between practice locations as part of your coverage. Telemedicine is not available.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
- Adult medical oncology patients.
- Inpatient rounding included.
- Phone consults as part of call coverage.
- Case mix: general medical oncology.
Facility & Support
- Hospital: ~220 beds, Level III Trauma Center.
- EMR: Epic.
- Full multispecialty backup (Cardiology, General Surgery, Neurology, Infectious Disease, Rehab, Hospice, Pediatrics, others).
- Onsite support: APPs, nursing, and ancillary staff.
Privileges, Credentialing & Compliance
- Hospital privileges required; temporary/emergency privileges are not available.
- Credentialing timeline: approximately 60–90 days.
- Case logs required for credentialing.
- Must enter work hours and complete order entry within the Vemsta platform.
Compensation & Benefits
- Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance provided.
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Active Indiana medical license or participation in IMLC.
- Board certified or board eligible (must obtain board certification within 5 years of residency).
- Active DEA (if applicable).
- BLS required; ACLS required only if requesting conscious sedation privileges.
- Oncology clinical experience with case logs for credentialing.
Health & Administrative Requirements
- Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations required (or approved medical/religious exemption).
- Must perform order entry as the locum provider in Vemsta and record work hours there.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient oncology care and manage admitted oncology patients during scheduled clinical hours.
- Participate in night and weekend telephone call rotation and respond by phone; come onsite when requested by APPs.
- Collaborate with APPs and multidisciplinary teams for patient care.
- Travel to Winchester and Hagerstown outreach clinics for scheduled coverage.
