We are seeking a Project Estimator Manager to lead our estimating team and drive strategic growth across our mechanical divisions. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced estimator who enjoys managing people, refining processes, and helping shape the company’s preconstruction strategy.
Job Summary
The Project Estimator Manager oversees the estimating department for mechanical projects, ensuring accurate and competitive bids, consistent estimating practices, and alignment with company profitability goals. This position manages a team of estimators, provides mentorship and technical guidance, and collaborates with business development, operations, and project management teams to ensure success from concept through award.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of mechanical estimators.
Review and approve detailed cost estimates, budgets, and proposals for HVAC, plumbing, and piping projects.
Establish and maintain estimating standards, templates, and cost databases.
Analyze drawings, specifications, and project scopes to prepare accurate and competitive estimates.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and leadership to develop bid strategies and value engineering options.
Coordinate subcontractor/vendor solicitations, review proposals, and ensure complete scope coverage.
Conduct bid reviews and lead preconstruction meetings.
Track and analyze bid-hit ratios, estimate accuracy, and team performance.
Participate in post-job reviews to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency.
Stay current on market pricing, labor productivity, and material cost trends.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
Equivalent combination of education and industry experience
Technical Skills
Proficiency with estimating software and digital takeoff tools (such as Trimble, PlanSwift, ProEst, or similar platforms).
Experience with construction management platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar systems.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and construction cost analysis.
Qualifications
Experience with design-build and negotiated mechanical construction projects.
Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), PMP, or similar industry certification preferred.
Prior experience in mechanical contracting, industrial, or commercial construction markets.
Strong understanding of value engineering, cost modeling, and preconstruction strategy.
7–10 years of mechanical construction estimating experience, preferably within HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems required.
3 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing estimators or preconstruction teams required.
Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Demonstrated experience preparing conceptual budgets, detailed take-offs, and final bid estimates.
Strong knowledge of mechanical construction methods, materials, labor productivity, and equipment costs.
Proven experience reviewing subcontractor proposals and vendor pricing.
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills required for cost analysis and bid development.
Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field leadership.
Ability to manage multiple estimates and bid deadlines simultaneously
