A well-established property management firm in the tri-state area is seeking a Property Accountant to join an expanding accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records
- Prepare and maintain monthly financial reports for management review
- Conduct quarterly general ledger reviews to support portfolio-wide accuracy and compliance
- Compile, analyze, and interpret financial and accounting reports related to cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable/receivable, and profit and loss activity
- Prepare journal entries and assist with annual audit processes
- Support annual budgeting and business planning initiatives
- Classify, record, and summarize financial transactions in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Review financial postings, supporting documentation, and account coding for accuracy and compliance
- Utilize financial systems to research accounts and generate reports
- Maintain organized electronic and physical financial records
- Review tenant lease agreements and process billing in accordance with lease terms
- Assist with annual CAM, tax, and insurance reconciliations
- Monitor timely payment of real estate taxes and assessments
- Manage annual report filings and business license renewals across multiple jurisdictions
- Ensure compliance with applicable banking, mortgage, and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with banking institutions to establish and maintain accounts
- Provide support for ad hoc accounting projects and additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree preferred, or 3–4 years of commercial real estate property accounting experience
- Minimum of 2–4 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience required; commercial real estate and property management experience preferred
- Knowledge of property management accounting including financial reporting, recoveries, budgeting, and forecasting preferred
- Proficiency in accounting or bookkeeping software required; MRI experience preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative and proactive approach
- Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
