Job Description:
This role is responsible for assisting patients with understanding their financial obligations, reviewing account details, and identifying eligibility for coverage or financial assistance programs. The position combines direct patient interaction with administrative responsibilities to ensure accounts are handled accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-person discussions with patients regarding account balances and payment options
- Review financial documentation to assess qualification for insurance or assistance programs
- Address patient questions related to billing, claims, and account activity via phone and written communication
- Process and post payments accurately, including credit card transactions and daily reconciliations
- Guide patients through financial assistance applications and ensure proper documentation is collected
- Follow up on outstanding balances and manage self-pay accounts according to established procedures
- Audit account details for accuracy and ensure all updates are properly documented
- Communicate with insurance carriers to verify claim status and support timely payment resolution
- Set up payment arrangements aligned with company policies
- Contribute to team initiatives, meetings, and ongoing process improvements
- Experience in healthcare financial counseling preferred
- Background in medical billing, revenue cycle management, or patient account services is a required
- Prior experience in banking, insurance verification, or behavioral/mental health environments is beneficial
- Knowledge of Medicaid or marketplace plans is helpful
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to handle sensitive financial conversations with professionalism
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with EMR systems is advantageous
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (flexible start time as early as 7:30 AM)
- Work Setting: Fully onsite position
- Daily Workflow: Combination of patient-facing responsibilities and administrative account review
- Performance Expectations: Ability to manage a high volume of accounts while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
- Systems Utilized: EMR platforms and Microsoft Excel
