Assistant Controller
Location: Oxnard, CA (Onsite)
Compensation: $140,000–$150,000
Position Overview:
The Assistant Controller will work closely with the CFO and Controller to strengthen accounting operations, implement GAAP-compliant controls, and improve month-end close and reconciliation processes. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys balancing technical accounting responsibilities with team leadership and operational improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the CFO and Controller to improve accounting operations, reporting accuracy, and internal controls
- Lead and manage the month-end close (MEC) process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
- Oversee cash management and daily treasury activities
- Review and improve bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, and close procedures
- Supervise accounting operations including AP, AR, inventory accounting, and treasury functions
- Develop and implement GAAP-compliant accounting processes and controls
- Drive process improvements to create greater visibility into financial and operational performance
- Mentor, coach, and develop accounting staff while fostering accountability and collaboration
- Support audits, compliance initiatives, and special projects
- Assist with ERP and system-related process improvements and implementations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Strong experience owning the month-end close process
- Hands-on experience with cash management, AP/AR, bank reconciliations, and account reconciliations
- Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams
- High integrity with strong attention to detail and accountability
- Experience working in small-to-medium-sized company environments where a hands-on approach is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Public company experience
- Industry experience within agriculture, manufacturing, distribution, or logistics
- Experience supporting ERP or system implementations
- Familiarity with mid-level ERP systems; experience with Famous and inventory/shipping systems is a plus
