Job Description
This role supports the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapon System program as an individual contributor on the Architecture and Delivery Automated Test and Verification team. The engineer develops automation-focused software products that enable system-level requirement verification in support of a critical defense contract for the Missile Defense Agency. The position operates within an Agile development environment and offers a dynamic, fast-paced setting with diverse technical assignments and close collaboration across teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop software products that support automated testing and verification of system-level requirements for the GMD Weapon System.
- Design, implement, and maintain test automation solutions that improve the efficiency and reliability of requirement verification efforts.
- Work within an Agile software development lifecycle, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate closely with product teams to develop technical solutions that align with program objectives and contract requirements.
- Use tools such as Jira, Confluence, Fisheye/Crucible, Bitbucket, and related platforms to manage work items, documentation, code reviews, and version control.
- Participate in integration, testing, and deployment activities to ensure that automated test solutions function correctly within the overall system.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of development and test processes, including automation frameworks and pipelines.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment by managing multiple assignments and working effectively with team members at all levels.
- Support Agile and Scrum practices, potentially contributing in leadership capacities such as Scrum Master or Product Owner as experience allows.
- Active security clearance, enabling work on defense-related programs.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of professional experience in software engineering, computer science, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in Python for developing automation-related software products.
- Hands-on experience with the full software development lifecycle, including integration, testing, and deployment.
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
- Practical use of Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence for managing requirements, tasks, and documentation.
- Familiarity with test automation practices and frameworks at the system level.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations and diverse assignments.
- Strong collaboration skills and comfort working in cross-functional, multi-level team settings.
- Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science discipline(s).
- Experience developing technical solutions in close collaboration with product teams.
- Experience in software development specifically focused on test automation.
- Experience using Elasticsearch in support of software or test automation solutions.
- Experience with additional Agile tools such as Fisheye/Crucible and Bitbucket for code review and version control.
- Background in Agile/Scrum leadership roles such as Scrum Master or Product Owner.
- Familiarity with Scrum methodologies and practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to evolving technical and program requirements.
This position is based on site in a non-SCIF environment, providing a collaborative setting for close interaction with engineering and product teams. The role supports the Ground-based Midcourse Defense Weapon System program and operates within an Agile framework that emphasizes continuous delivery and improvement. The schedule offers flexibility through options such as a 9/80 or 4/10 workweek, supporting work–life balance while maintaining program commitments. The environment is fast paced, with high expectations and diverse technical assignments, and leverages modern software development and collaboration tools including Jira, Confluence, Fisheye/Crucible, Bitbucket, and Elasticsearch.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntsville, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
