Job Description

The main function of a Specimen Processor is to perform specimen accessioning, sample sorting, and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Introduce and prepare biological specimens for laboratory processing.
• Open specimens and pour off into secondary containers for analysis and testing.
• Verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted.
• Enter patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes.
• Meet key production metrics and quality measures for timely and accurate results.
• Unpack and route specimens to respective staging areas.
• Pack and ship specimens to appropriate testing facilities when required.
• Prepare and store excess specimen samples properly.
• Resolve and document any problem specimens.
• Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste safely.
• Comply with environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
• Operate automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary.

Essential Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Proficient computer and typing skills.
• Ability to handle human biological specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Strong eye-hand coordination for accurate specimen identification.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• 0-2 years of work experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous medical or production experience is preferred.
• Comfortable working both independently and in a team environment.
• High level of attention to detail with problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Experience in data entry is required.

Work Environment

Work during the 2nd shift from 6 PM to 2:30 AM, Monday to Friday, with rotating Saturday shifts every other week. A 10% shift differential is offered for the 2nd shift. A 30-minute lunch/dinner break is provided. Possibility of required overtime. This role provides a great entry point into a medical lab environment, especially since previous experience is not mandatory.

This is a Contract position based out of Wood Dale, IL.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Wood Dale,IL.

This position is anticipated to close on Dec 25, 2025.
