Job Description
The Site Safety & Health Specialist is responsible for leading and implementing project-specific safety policies and procedures. This role provides professional Safety & Health leadership to the project management team within a heavy construction environment. The Specialist administers Safety & Health programs on field construction projects to ensure operations are executed as planned and conducted safely. Responsibilities include compliance management with OSHA regulations, conducting safety performance reviews, and maintaining safety records.
Responsibilities
- Lead and implement project-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Administer Safety & Health programs on field construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with Local, State, and Federal OSHA rules and regulations.
- Conduct regular health and safety performance reviews and assessments.
- Resolve actions causing work stoppage due to immediate danger to life and health.
- Collaborate with the project management team to prevent future work stoppages.
- Consult with site personnel on safety issues and recommend best practices.
- Manage on-site Safety & Health programs in collaboration with the client's Safety & Health Department.
- Conduct project Safety & Health walk-through assessments and ensure timely correction of issues.
- Compile memos related to safety and assist site management with safety correspondence.
- Lead and document training on relevant Safety & Health subjects.
- Review incident investigation reports and recommend appropriate countermeasures.
- Maintain safety records in an audit-ready state and submit documentation as required.
- Travel to various project site locations as needed.
Essential Skills
- Proficient in Safety Management and Construction Safety.
- Knowledge of OSHA Construction and General Industry Regulations.
- Familiarity with ANSI, NIOSH, CoE, and NEC Standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Completion of OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour Construction Outreach Safety Training Course.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or Construction Management with 7 years of relevant experience, or
- Associate's degree in the same fields with 9 years of experience, or
- High School Diploma/GED with 11 years of experience.
- Experienced in project management and field safety.
Work Environment
This is a field-based position located at East Kentucky Power's Cooper Power Plant in Somerset, KY. The role involves overseeing subcontractor safety programs from a trailer on a construction site. The specialist will work with Superintendents and other safety managers. Construction hours include potential overtime, and field attire is required. The position offers a $150 per diem.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $63.00 - $65.00/hr.
