Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Solidworks, CATIA)

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who will be instrumental in developing new products and manufacturing processes. This role involves collaborating with various departments and engineering teams to create 3D models, prototypes, and documentation using CAD software. The position requires hands-on lab testing to support product development and customer deliverables, as well as providing technical advice to manufacturing personnel and customers. Additionally, mentoring junior engineers and applying engineering principles to molds, fixtures, and product testing are key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with program managers to develop designs and layout schedules for new and existing contracts.
• Identify innovative and cost-effective solutions to design challenges.
• Create 3D models, manufacturing drawings, bills of material, and engineering documentation.
• Assist in creating and presenting technical reports regarding design and testing status and results.
• Conduct design reviews and approve design for manufacturing reviews.
• Manage the mold building process.
• Complete projects within assigned time frames.
• Prepare estimates for development costs.
• Handle timekeeping and approval for assigned personnel.
• Prepare and administer performance reviews for assigned employees.
• Distribute workload for self and assigned employees.
• Provide leadership and guidance to assigned employees.
• Perform requirements analysis for projects and apply results to the design process.
• Lead and/or assist with the construction of prototypes to validate design concepts.
• Ensure product performance parameters are met through requirement-based analysis.
• Navigate project paths in ambiguous environments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Proficiency in Mechanical Design using Solidworks and CATIA.
• Experience in vibration testing, R&D, and load analysis.
• Engineering management and cost/schedule management skills.
• Ability to interface with customers and suppliers.
• Experience with plastics, injection molding, tooling, and tooling design.
• 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
• 5 years of experience in injection molding and plastic part design.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and computer models.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Self-motivated with excellent workload management skills.
• Commitment to safety and hands-on mechanical aptitude.

• BS in Engineering or related field, or 10 years of on-the-job training in engineering.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The work environment includes office space, R&D lab space, and manufacturing/production facilities. The company manufactures products from rubber and plastic, including gas masks, PAPRs, respirators, body armor, and lacrosse equipment. The environment is dynamic, requiring attention to safety and collaboration across different teams.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belcamp, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $46.00 - $69.00/hr.
