Job Title: Safety Coordinator
Job Description

The Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of people, equipment, and the environment in a GMP-regulated manufacturing facility producing spray and aerosol pest and lawn protection products. This position focuses on evaluating existing and new equipment, validating installations, conducting risk analyses and FMEAs, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and internal safety standards. The role blends hands-on work on the manufacturing floor with data-driven analysis in the office to drive safe, reliable, and compliant operations while supporting ongoing investments in new equipment and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing equipment and new capital projects to confirm proper installation, validation, and safe operation in accordance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct detailed risk analyses, risk assessments, and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) to identify why equipment fails, determine whether failures pose safety concerns, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyze safety and operational data to understand how risk impacts manufacturing workflow, production efficiency, and team safety, and use these insights to drive improvements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety procedures, policies, and standards to prevent accidents and injuries, including Process Safety Management and Risk Management Programs.
  • Create and deliver technical safety training for employees and leadership, including mandatory training for new hires and short, focused safety huddles related to new or modified equipment.
  • Lead and support training programs on lockout/tagout, confined space entry, machine guarding, Management of Change (MOC), and other systematic change management and safety processes.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and processes to verify compliance with OSHA, EPA, GMP, and internal safety requirements.
  • Identify potential hazards associated with job functions, equipment, and processes, then present and implement corrective actions to eliminate or reduce risk.
  • Participate in accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, perform root cause analysis related to equipment and processes, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay current on OSHA and EPA regulations and other relevant safety standards that impact the facility, and translate regulatory changes into practical site-level actions.
  • Recommend and present solutions for achieving and maintaining compliance with regulatory and internal safety requirements.
  • Contribute to the design, selection, and implementation of safe equipment and systems, including appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), machine guarding, and interlocks.
  • Evaluate new equipment for safety requirements such as guarding, interlocks, ergonomics, and safe access for operation, maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Communicate safety information clearly and effectively to all levels of the organization, from mechanics and operators to engineering and leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with plant engineers, maintenance teams, contractors, and technical specialists to implement safety initiatives and resolve equipment-related safety concerns.
  • Work frequently on the manufacturing floor to inspect equipment, observe operations, ask questions, and engage directly with operators and mechanics in a hands-on capacity.
  • Maintain accurate and complete safety records, reports, training documentation, and audit findings as required by policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Support and promote a strong safety culture that aligns with the organization’s investments in new equipment and automation to minimize disruption to production.
  • Perform physical activities as needed, including lifting a minimum of 50 pounds overhead, climbing into and under equipment, and frequently climbing stairs, ladders, and cross-overs.
  • Carry out other safety-related duties as assigned to support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience conducting root cause analyses on equipment-related issues with a focus on identifying and mitigating safety risks.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering safety training in a manufacturing environment, including topics such as lockout/tagout, confined spaces, machine guarding, and Management of Change (MOC).
  • 2–3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably within GMP-regulated consumer goods production.
  • Hands-on experience performing risk analysis and working cross-functionally with engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing teams on the production floor.
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret safety and operational data and translate findings into practical risk reduction measures.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations relevant to manufacturing operations and equipment safety.
  • Familiarity with GMP practices and requirements in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience conducting FMEAs and other structured risk assessment methodologies.
  • Knowledge of equipment validation and reliability concepts in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of lockout/tagout procedures, confined space protocols, and other core manufacturing safety concepts.
  • Ability to perform thorough root cause analysis to determine how equipment is functioning, whether it needs to be repaired or replaced, and how to implement changes safely and compliantly.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical safety information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid role that alternates between office-based analysis and hands-on work on the manufacturing floor.
  • Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds overhead and to climb into, under, and around equipment, including frequent use of stairs, ladders, and cross-overs.
  • Bachelor’s degree (field open; engineering not required).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a GMP-regulated facility producing spray, aerosol, or liquid filling consumer products, especially pest and lawn protection products.
  • Familiarity with EPA regulations and requirements related to aerosol and liquid filling operations.
  • Background in consumer goods manufacturing and associated safety practices.
  • Experience designing or evaluating machine guarding, interlocks, and ergonomic improvements for manufacturing equipment.
  • Exposure to Process Safety Management and Risk Management Program development and implementation.
  • Board certifications in safety or environmental disciplines are highly valued, including credentials such as Certified Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Registered Safety Professional (RSP).
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including plant engineering, maintenance, operations, and contractors, to drive safety improvements.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining detailed safety records, training logs, and audit documentation.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment with ongoing investments in new equipment and automation, and the ability to adapt safety programs to new technologies.
Work Environment

The role operates in a hybrid environment split between an office setting and a GMP-regulated manufacturing floor that produces spray and aerosol pest and lawn protection products. Time is regularly spent on the production floor working directly with mechanics, operators, contractors, and engineers around operating equipment, automation, and new capital installations. The environment includes exposure to typical manufacturing conditions such as machinery, noise, and process equipment, and requires frequent movement throughout the facility, including climbing stairs, ladders, and cross-overs and occasionally entering or working around confined spaces. The position supports a culture focused on safety, continuous improvement, and investment in new equipment and automation to maintain a safe work setting and minimize disruption to production. Standard office tools and data analysis systems are used for documentation, reporting, and risk assessment, while appropriate PPE is required and provided when working in production areas.
