This involves using measuring tools and techniques to identify defects, ensuring compliance with blueprints and specifications, and reporting any issues to production teams to maintain product quality and prevent further problems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect fabricated parts by visually and physically examining metal components at various stages of production, such as raw materials, cut pieces, welded joints, and finished products, to check for dimensional accuracy, surface defects, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Utilize measuring tools such as tape measures, levels, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring instruments to ensure tolerances are met.

Essential Skills

  • Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, including cutting, welding, and bending.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to check large quantities of documents to ensure they meet code specifications.
  • Expertise in using both standard and precision measuring tools, such as tape measures, levels, calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest in becoming a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • Ability to train and mentor others.

Work Environment

The role involves splitting time between the office and the shop floor, looking at parts, reviewing documentation specific to each build, and interacting with machine operators, welders, and inspectors.
