Job Description

The Sr. Quality Control (QC) Technician plays a crucial role in our contract job shop environment, focusing on sheet metal fabrication. This high-level position is responsible for meticulous inspection and documentation, including the oversight of PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and ISIR (Initial Sample Inspection Report) requirements. The role involves driving continuous improvement across quality systems and production processes, as well as advocating for process enhancements and inspiring team members to initiate positive changes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform the preparation, review, and submission of PPAP and ISIR documentation for contract sheet metal jobs, ensuring all deliverables exceed customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Audit welds and fabricated parts, validating adherence to specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Mentor and train junior QC personnel, fostering a team oriented toward continuous learning and process excellence.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for process optimization and cost savings.
  • Act as a change agent—proactively propose, communicate, and help implement new or improved quality procedures; encourage others to voice insights, observations, and concerns to enhance workflow and product quality.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes, especially as they relate to PPAP/ISIR non-conformances or customer feedback.
  • Represent QC in cross-functional teams, bringing a solutions-oriented approach to meetings with production, engineering, and management.
  • Support customer and third-party audits, ensuring all quality documentation, including PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow Diagrams, is accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain and improve systems for documentation, traceability, and reporting in compliance with ISO standards and specific contract customer requirements.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required; technical degree or relevant certifications in quality/manufacturing preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in an ISO-certified contract job shop, with advanced expertise in sheet metal fabrication and quality systems.
  • Extensive working knowledge of PPAP and ISIR processes, including documentation, review, and direct interaction with contract customers.
  • Proficiency with advanced inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, CMMs), and a strong command of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading quality improvement programs and successfully implementing process changes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to mentor and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, and passionate about driving positive change for organizational success.
