Job Description
This role leads the full quality control program for a large-scale, multi‑year renovation project in Fairfax, VA, involving demolition, restructuring, and new vertical construction on a $107 million project. The Quality Control Manager oversees all quality-related activities on site, ensuring that construction work meets contractual, regulatory, and safety standards while coordinating closely with project teams and stakeholders throughout the project’s 3 year duration.
Responsibilities
- Implement and manage the entire quality control (QC) program for a large renovation and new construction project in Fairfax, VA.
- Oversee quality control for all phases of demolition, restructuring, and new vertical construction work.
- Attend all post-award conferences, Construction Quality Control (CQC) plan meetings, coordination meetings, and mutual understanding meetings to represent the QC function.
- Lead and conduct regular CQC meetings with project stakeholders to review quality standards, progress, and corrective actions.
- Perform and document the three phases of the quality control process (preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections) for all definable features of work.
- Review, evaluate, and approve construction submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Ensure all required testing is properly scheduled, performed, and documented in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Inspect work in progress and completed work to verify conformance with plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Interpret and review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to guide quality inspections and identify potential issues.
- Coordinate with project teams, inspectors, and other stakeholders to resolve quality-related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, nonconformance reports, and corrective measures throughout the project lifecycle.
- Promote and reinforce OSHA compliance and other safety-related quality requirements on the construction site.
- Support quality requirements on local, state, and federal construction project components as applicable.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and project executives to align quality goals with overall project objectives.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in quality control management on vertical construction projects.
- Hands-on experience implementing and managing a comprehensive construction quality control (CQC) program.
- Ability to perform the three phases of quality control inspections (preparatory, initial, and follow-up).
- Strong knowledge of construction quality standards for local, state, or federal projects.
- Experience with USACE (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) quality control practices or standards.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and construction specifications.
- Experience performing submittal review and approval in a construction environment.
- Working knowledge of OSHA compliance requirements on construction sites.
- Experience as a certified Quality Control Manager (QCM) or similar role.
- Qualification as a Professional Engineer (PE) with a degree, or as an experienced inspector with strong tenure in vertical construction.
- Strong inspection skills with the ability to identify nonconformance and recommend corrective actions.
- Effective communication and coordination skills for leading meetings and collaborating with project teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- QC certification or equivalent formal quality control credential.
- Experience working on large-scale renovation or new construction projects.
- Familiarity with testing protocols, documentation standards, and reporting for construction materials and systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with project managers and project executives and to learn from a project leadership.
- Ownership mindset with a focus on project success and continuous improvement.
- Experience with ESOP or employee-ownership cultures is a plus.
Work Environment
This position is based on a construction site in Fairfax, VA, working on a major renovation and new construction project. The role operates on a day shift schedule, five days per week, with daily presence required on site. The environment is fast-paced and field-oriented, involving regular inspections, on-site meetings, and close collaboration with project teams. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
