Job Description
This role supports all value streams and departments involved in the manufacturing and assembly of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical sub-assemblies. The Quality and Reliability Engineer drives operational improvements and develops practical solutions to quality and reliability issues, using customer and internal metrics such as on-time delivery, QPPM, first pass yield, and inventory turns to measure success. This position requires a hands-on engineer who can work independently as the primary quality engineer on site, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and respond quickly to changing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the quality team in the timely resolution of corrective actions and ensure issues are addressed within agreed timelines.
- Drive continuous improvement in quality and reliability performance across all value streams and departments.
- Provide investigative and technical support for supplier, internal, and customer corrective actions and nonconformance activities, including containment, failure analysis, escalations, claim validation, and product purges.
- Collaborate with process owners and cross-functional teams to manage corrective action databases, prepare responses for stakeholders, drive actions to closure by due dates, and consult with other departments on issue resolution.
- Contribute to monthly reports on corrective activities and communicate trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Assist with internal audit program management and support the ISO 9001 quality management system.
- Support RMA, MRB, FAI, and OSTR technical and administrative activities as needed.
- Perform support and database management activities for the quality team using disciplined protocols and change practices.
- Compose and update Operational Method Sheets and other process and quality documentation to ensure clear and current instructions.
- Design, develop, specify, research, build, and implement fixtures to support new and existing assembly builds.
- Work with teams to ensure technicians are properly trained on assemblies and have complete, accurate work instructions.
- Assist in assessing supplier performance and partner with the Materials department and others to manage and eliminate recurring supplier issues, establish supplier qualification criteria, and develop strong working relationships.
- Prepare written reports for customer and supplier visits, communicate findings and corrective action plans to management, and facilitate execution of agreed actions.
- Support production and quality control supervisory duties as needed to maintain product quality and flow.
- Support, coordinate, and prepare for customer audits, ensuring all required documentation and evidence are in place.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer supplier quality engineers (SQEs) and other relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and distribute meeting minutes as needed to document decisions, actions, and follow-up items.
- Host customer and supplier visits, including facility tours, technical discussions, and review of quality performance.
- Handle adversity in a patient, tactful, and persistent manner to achieve positive results when working with cross-functional teams.
- Analyze technical and process problems to determine root causes and recommend effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Determine the best methods for solving problems and drive corrective action activities to full resolution.
- Prioritize work to maximize organizational benefit and align with key quality and reliability metrics.
- Interact effectively with people at all levels and communicate clearly verbally, graphically, and in writing.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall quality, reliability, and operational goals.
- 2–4 years of relevant work experience in quality engineering and/or reliability engineering.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Hands-on experience with corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes and nonconformance reports.
- Experience investigating claims and customer or internal nonconformance reports, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Proficiency with 8D problem-solving methodologies and FMEA for risk assessment and mitigation.
- Working knowledge of Lean concepts and 5S methodologies in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
- Understanding of pneumatic and electronic control systems sufficient to answer assembly questions from technicians in a timely manner.
- Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems and willingness to support internal audits.
- Experience with supplier audits and supplier performance assessments.
- Moderate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer applications, with a strong emphasis on data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to support and manage information databases using disciplined protocols and change control practices.
- Strong analytical skills to identify root causes of technical and process problems.
- Ability to work independently and reliably without direct supervision as the primary quality engineer on site.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including clear verbal, written, and graphical communication.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Experience in semiconductor or related high-tech manufacturing environments, particularly supporting complex equipment and systems.
- Familiarity with supporting large equipment manufacturers and their requirements in areas such as chemical or electrical systems.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or other CAD systems to support fixture design and documentation.
- Experience preparing and presenting written reports for customer and supplier visits, including findings and corrective action plans.
- Experience hosting customer and supplier visits and acting as a primary technical and quality point of contact.
- Comfort working in a highly dynamic, adaptable, and less structured environment that requires flexibility and mental agility.
- Demonstrated ability to support internal audit activities and contribute to continuous improvement of the quality management system.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to customer or supplier facilities as needed.
This is a full-time, on-site position with standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role is based in a manufacturing and assembly environment that produces pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical sub-assemblies. You will work closely with technicians, engineers, and cross-functional teams on the production floor and in office settings. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, with frequent changes in priorities and requirements, requiring adaptability, flexibility, and strong problem-solving skills. You will use tools such as Microsoft Office, quality and corrective action databases, and CAD software (such as SolidWorks) to perform analyses, prepare documentation, and design fixtures. As the primary quality engineer on site, you will often work independently while collaborating with internal teams, customers, and suppliers. Occasional travel to customer or supplier facilities may be required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manor, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.06 - $40.86/hr.
