Job Description
Our client is currently hiring for a Project Engineers who want to grow with a busy organization working on heavy oil, gas processing, and fabrication projects. The team is adding both an intermediate and a Sr. Project Engineer due to a strong and expanding project pipeline. The intermediate engineer will receive training and mentorship while taking ownership of foundational engineering tasks, and the Sr. engineer will lead projects and/or technical teams with a focus on heavy oil. Both roles contribute directly to the successful delivery of complex projects and support ongoing development and improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support engineering activities on heavy oil, gas processing, and fabrication projects from concept through execution.
- Coordinate project engineering tasks, ensuring alignment with project management on scope, schedule, and technical requirements.
- Prepare, review, and approve major equipment requisitions to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
- Collaborate closely with project managers to support the development and tracking of project budgets and schedules.
- Work proactively to identify issues, investigate options, and propose solutions before escalating to leadership when necessary.
- Interface confidently with multiple internal disciplines, stakeholders, and decision-makers to coordinate technical information and resolve design and execution challenges.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously while maintaining organization and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and long-term development of engineering processes, standards, and project delivery practices.
- For the Sr. role, provide leadership to projects and/or technical teams, mentoring others and ensuring high-quality engineering outcomes.
- For the intermediate role, take ownership of foundational engineering tasks while actively seeking learning opportunities and applying feedback to grow professionally.
Essential Skills
- 4 years of relevant engineering experience for the intermediate Project Engineer role.
- 7 years of relevant engineering experience for the Sr. Project Engineer role.
- Demonstrated project engineering and project management experience in heavy oil, gas processing, and fabrication environments.
- Approximately 3 years of fabrication experience.
- For the Sr. role, strong emphasis on heavy oil experience with at least 3 years in this area.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (such as Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical) or equivalent engineering education supported by relevant work experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Professional Licensee (P.L.Eng) designation, or eligibility for P.Eng within 1 year for international or EIT candidates.
- Ability to prepare and review major equipment requisitions with a high level of technical accuracy.
- Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage several concurrent assignments.
- Ability to work efficiently, organize time effectively, and perform under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Confident communication skills for interacting with multiple disciplines, stakeholders, and decision-makers.
- Resilience and a positive attitude toward learning and developing new skills in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of project budgets and schedules through close coordination with project management.
- Experience leading projects and/or technical teams, particularly for the Sr. Project Engineer role.
- Openness to diverse engineering educational backgrounds when supported by strong relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to remain composed and solution-focused when faced with complex or time-sensitive challenges.
- Motivation to contribute to long-term development and continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
Work Environment
This role is based 100% on site in Edmonton, working closely with a project team that is currently operating at and beyond capacity due to a strong project pipeline. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, with frequent coordination among engineering disciplines, project management, and other stakeholders. You will work in a setting that emphasizes hands-on involvement in heavy oil, gas processing, and fabrication projects, with opportunities for long-term development and improvement support. The position offers stability through long-term, full-time employment and the chance to grow alongside an expanding workload and a collaborative engineering team.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Edmonton, AB.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $52.00 - $62.50/hr.
