Join a leading electrical and communications contractor in the New York/New Jersey metro area as a Purchasing Agent. This role involves supporting field operations, project managers, and engineering staff by sourcing, procuring, and coordinating the delivery of materials essential to commercial electrical and communications projects. Ensure competitive pricing, efficient logistics, and uphold the commitment to quality craftsmanship and project excellence.
Responsibilities- Prepare and issue purchase orders for electrical materials, communications equipment, tools, and project-specific components.
- Source and evaluate vendors, ensuring competitive pricing and adherence to quality standards.
- Support procurement for electrical construction, structured cabling, and solar PV projects.
- Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to forecast material needs for various commercial installations.
- Track long lead equipment and coordinate timely delivery across job sites in the NY/NJ region.
- Maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, distributors, and specialty vendors.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and volume agreements to support project budgets.
- Monitor order status, deliveries, returns, and inventory levels.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and resolve discrepancies related to pricing, invoicing, or damaged materials.
- Assist with warehouse stock coordination.
- Compare vendor proposals and identify cost-efficient material alternatives.
- Participate in value engineering discussions with project teams.
- 2 years of purchasing experience in electrical contracting, construction, or similar trades.
- Working knowledge of electrical components, systems, and construction materials.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction/purchasing software.
- Experience supporting large commercial, healthcare, institutional, or infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with NY/NJ regional suppliers and electrical distribution networks.
- Ability to read electrical drawings, specs, and submittals.
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
- Able to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Collaborative with a strong customer service mindset toward field teams.
- Adaptable with strong problem-solving abilities.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $150000.00/hr.
