Job Description
This part-time Phlebotomist role focuses on providing high-quality blood collection services in a patient service center setting. You will perform routine and pediatric blood draws, handle specimen collection and processing, and support patients in a professional and compassionate manner. This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy a change of scenery and in-state travel while working a consistent weekly schedule.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture using straight needles for the majority of blood draws, ensuring safe and accurate collection.
- Use butterfly needles confidently and appropriately for patients with difficult veins or hard sticks.
- Draw blood from patients of all ages, including pediatric patients, with a calm, patient, and reassuring approach.
- Collect, label, and handle blood specimens accurately to maintain sample integrity and prevent errors.
- Process blood specimens according to established procedures, including preparation for transport or analysis.
- Communicate clearly with Spanish-speaking patients and families, providing instructions and information in Spanish as needed.
- Verify patient identity and test orders carefully to ensure accuracy before performing blood collection.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all blood draws, specimen collections, and related documentation.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures in the patient service center.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to all patients, addressing questions and concerns respectfully.
- Assist with general administrative tasks related to phlebotomy and specimen processing, demonstrating strong attention to detail.
- Support a clean, organized, and efficient work area, ensuring all equipment and supplies are properly maintained.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience drawing blood in a clinical or patient service center environment.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy using straight needles for routine blood draws.
- Ability to use butterfly needles effectively for difficult or hard-stick patients.
- Experience performing pediatric blood draws and working comfortably with children.
- Fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate clearly with Spanish-speaking patients (bilingual in Spanish is required).
- Strong attention to detail in specimen collection, labeling, and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to follow established procedures for blood collection, handling, and processing.
- Solid administrative and organizational skills related to phlebotomy and patient documentation.
- Commitment to patient care, safety, and confidentiality.

- Experience working in a patient service center or similar outpatient setting.
- Comfort with in-state travel and working in different locations as needed.

Work Environment

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hauppauge, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
