Phlebotomist

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections such as urine or fecal as required.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
• Place samples in appropriate containers and tubes, accurately label them, and follow specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.

• Experience with straight needle technique.
• Verifiable experience drawing blood from all age groups including geriatrics and pediatrics.

The position requires full-time work during one shift. The dress code is solid color scrubs with closed-toed leather shoes, no mesh.

This is a Contract position based out of Palm Bay, Florida.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $20.00/hr.
