Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

This Phlebotomist role focuses on performing high-quality blood collection and specimen processing while delivering outstanding customer service in a primary care setting. You will work with patients across various age groups, ensure accurate data and billing entry, and support a small, close‑knit clinical team in providing timely diagnostic services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for patients across all age groups, including geriatrics and pediatrics.
  • Collect specimens for drug screens, paternity tests, alcohol tests, and other diagnostic purposes in accordance with established protocols.
  • Prepare and label all collected specimens accurately for testing and analysis, ensuring proper handling and processing.
  • Perform data entry of patient and specimen information into the electronic medical record (EMR) system accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Process billing information and collect payments from patients when required, following office procedures.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate patient and specimen information logs for tracking and compliance purposes.
  • Provide superior, service-oriented customer service to all patients, ensuring a respectful, calm, and supportive experience.
  • Carry out administrative and clerical duties as necessary to support the daily operations of the practice.
  • Collaborate with nurses and the provider, and work effectively as part of a small clinical team.
  • Work independently and under minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of accuracy and patient care.
  • Travel to additional sites when needed, following scheduling and practice requirements.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent (HS Diploma/GED).
  • Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience, including venipuncture and capillary blood collection.
  • Proven experience as a phlebotomist in a clinical or laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform blood draws confidently with diverse patient populations, including geriatrics and pediatrics.
  • Strong customer service skills with a proven track record of providing exceptional patient care.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with patients and clinical staff.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Comfort working under minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  • Proficiency with computers and quick, efficient data entry skills.
  • Experience using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for patient and specimen documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency is preferred.
  • Skillful and knowledgeable in all aspects of phlebotomy, including proper specimen collection and processing.
  • Experience with specimen processing, including handling, labeling, and preparing samples for analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate logging of patient and specimen information.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks such as specimen collection, data entry, and administrative duties throughout the day.

Work Environment

This position is based in a small, close‑knit family practice primary care office with approximately 20 patients per day. You will work alongside one provider and a small team of nurses in a very positive, supportive environment where staff are valued and appreciated. Most patient volume occurs in the morning, and the patient population primarily consists of adolescence through adolescent adults. The role involves regular use of an EMR system and standard phlebotomy and clinical office equipment. The setting emphasizes collaboration, professionalism, and high-quality patient service in a calm, friendly atmosphere.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cary, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
