Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our team in a hospital setting. The ideal candidate will be skilled in venipuncture and capillary blood collection, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety. This role requires a strong commitment to professionalism and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using approved techniques and universal precautions.
- Verify patient identity and match specimens to requisitions in compliance with HIPAA and hospital policy.
- Label, process, and transport specimens according to laboratory standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment; follow OSHA and infection control protocols.
- Communicate professionally with patients and staff to reduce anxiety and explain procedures clearly.
- Document all collections accurately in the electronic health record (Mobilab).
- Phlebotomy certification
- CPT License
- Ability to perform blood draws, including the use of butterfly needles and centrifuge operation
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and self-motivate
- Capability to draw 40 patients per day (5 per hour)
- Active California CPT license
- BLS Certification
- Inpatient experience preferred
- Ability to perform pediatric heel sticks
This position is based in a hospital setting, primarily working on the floor and in the Emergency Department (ED). The team consists of three phlebotomists covering the night shift, with two on the floor and one in the ED. On average, phlebotomists handle 26 draws on a slow day and up to 45 on a busy day. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.
