Job Title: Phlebotomist

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate areas as needed.
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections such as urine or fecal samples, as required.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct by checking against scripts.
• Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to the required temperature.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states.
• Minimum of 2 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
