Job Title: Payroll Analyst
Job Description
The Payroll Analyst partners closely with Payroll leadership to support day-to-day payroll operations, system enhancements, compliance, and processing activities. This role ensures timely and accurate payroll execution, conducts audits and reporting, and provides guidance and support to payroll staff. The Payroll Analyst acts as a lead payroll resource and assumes management responsibilities in the absence of Payroll leadership.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Payroll leadership to evaluate, develop, test, and implement advanced payroll systems.
- Support payroll system enhancements, including employee self-service capabilities and third-party absence management solutions.
- Participate in payroll system projects, policy discussions, and implementation planning activities.
- Oversee payroll production independently or in collaboration with Payroll leadership to ensure accurate and timely processing.
- Perform full-cycle payroll processing activities, including data entry, verification, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Receive, review, and respond to wage garnishments, child support orders, and other withholding notices in a timely manner.
- Balance, prepare, and submit payments for all withholding orders in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Verify payroll data for accuracy, manage missing or incorrect information, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Process manual checks, special check requests, voids, and payroll adjustments as needed.
- Perform payroll reconciliations and confirm the accuracy of payroll funding and payment transmissions.
- Ensure payroll compliance with all relevant federal, state, IRS, and other regulatory requirements.
- Conduct payroll audits, review exception reports, and perform compliance validations to maintain data integrity.
- Schedule and coordinate payroll check disbursements and earned time payouts.
- Record payroll and tax liabilities and reconcile these records with general ledger systems.
- Train payroll staff on daily operations, processes, and procedures to support consistent and accurate work.
- Provide guidance, direction, and performance input for payroll support staff as assigned.
- Respond to inquiries from employees, clinicians, and managers regarding payroll matters and escalate issues when appropriate.
- Prepare routine and non-routine payroll correspondence and documentation to support internal and external needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of payroll administration experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processing, audits, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to prepare, analyze, and clearly communicate complex payroll calculations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with payroll processing and payroll tax activities.
- Solid data entry skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Foundational accounting knowledge related to payroll and general ledger reconciliation.
Skills Needed
- Experience supporting or implementing advanced payroll systems.
- Familiarity with employee self-service payroll tools and third-party absence management solutions.
- Experience participating in system projects, policy development, and implementation planning.
- Experience in recording payroll and tax liabilities and reconciling them to general ledger systems.
- Experience training and mentoring payroll staff on processes and procedures.
- Ability to draft clear payroll-related correspondence and documentation.
This is a Contract position based out of Boston, MA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
