Job Title: Outage Coordinator
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Outage Coordinator to lead the planning, scheduling, and coordination of transmission system line and equipment outages supporting large-scale line construction projects across Connecticut. This role is critical to maintaining grid reliability while enabling safe and efficient project execution.
The ideal candidate brings deep utility field experience, a strong command of transmission outage scheduling, and proven expertise in developing contingency and emergency restoration plans in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Project and Construction Managers to plan and schedule transmission outages with the Transmission Switching Authority
- Review transmission line and substation project schedules to minimize system risk, reduce grid instability, and maximize asset availability
- Collaborate with project management teams, transmission switching authorities, and external vendors to optimize outage timing and sequencing
- Develop and execute contingency and emergency restoration plans in coordination with project teams and vendors
- Prepare and submit outage requests to the Transmission Switching Authority and track approvals through execution
- Attend and actively contribute to project and outage coordination meetings
- Meet regularly with Transmission Switching Authority representatives to review outage requests, resolve issues, and monitor status
- Capture lessons learned from outage switching activities and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in a utilities field service or operations role
- Demonstrated experience scheduling transmission line and equipment outages
- Proven expertise developing contingency plans and emergency restoration strategies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Background in Switching Tagging and/or Transmission System Operator roles
- Experience coordinating outages during storm response and emergency operations
- Proficiency in MS Scheduler, Primavera P6, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong facilitation skills with the ability to lead cross-functional discussions
- Seasoned professional with strong critical-thinking, risk assessment, and outcome-driven decision-making skills
- Collaborative team player who demonstrates leadership and accountability
Work Environment & Travel
This position reports to the Hartford, CT location and requires travel throughout Connecticut for outage coordination and issue resolution. Mileage reimbursement is provided, and the role is eligible for a company vehicle. There is also potential for a pay increase in the second year of employment based on performance and business needs.
