Job Title: Mechanical Engineer / Designer (Mid-Level, Revit Production Lead)
Job Description
This mid-level Mechanical Engineer/Designer role focuses on serving as the Revit production lead for HVAC and plumbing systems on federal facility projects. The position centers on owning Revit production, performing mechanical load calculations, and supporting or independently executing small to mid-size design scopes for Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs facilities. The role exists to free up engineering bandwidth while ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across a growing portfolio of federal projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead Revit modeling and documentation for mechanical systems, with a focus on HVAC and plumbing designs.
- Own Revit production for HVAC and plumbing systems, ensuring accurate, coordinated, and constructible models.
- Produce and modify AutoCAD drawings, including legacy documents, as-built drawings, and detailed design sheets.
- Perform mechanical load modeling and calculations using Trane or equivalent software tools.
- Support or independently run small to mid-size design scopes, typically ranging from approximately $25K to $1M in design fees.
- Execute drafting and modeling tasks to offload workload from engineers and support project delivery timelines.
- Independently manage assigned tasks and small projects with minimal oversight, maintaining high technical quality and schedule adherence.
- Conduct short field and site visits, typically 1–2 days in duration, to review existing systems and gather design information.
- Coordinate closely with architecture, electrical, and controls stakeholders to ensure integrated and cohesive design solutions.
- Contribute to maintaining delivery continuity across an expanding federal project pipeline by reliably managing production responsibilities.
Essential Skills
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical building systems design.
- Advanced, production-level proficiency in Revit for mechanical (HVAC and plumbing) systems.
- Strong drafting experience with AutoCAD, including updates to legacy and as-built drawings.
- Demonstrated experience in HVAC system design for buildings.
- Significant plumbing design experience, with at least 50% of prior work focused on plumbing systems; plumbing-heavy preferred.
- Proficiency in mechanical load modeling and calculations using Trane or comparable modeling tools.
- Proven ability to execute work independently with minimal oversight from engineers.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related field preferred.
- Experience with mechanical systems in federal government facilities.
- Experience with mechanical systems in industrial and/or medical facilities.
- U.S. Citizenship, required to support federal project work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Exposure to control systems and their integration with mechanical designs.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure considered a plus.
- Prior experience with Department of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities.
- Experience working in industrial and medical facility environments.
- Strong technical writing skills to clearly document design intent and calculations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Work Environment
The role is based primarily in an office environment with a laid-back, professional culture that emphasizes meeting project deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards. Work involves extensive use of Revit and AutoCAD for mechanical system design and documentation, as well as mechanical load modeling tools such as Trane. The position includes occasional local travel for short field and site visits, typically 1–2 days at a time, to review existing building systems and support design development. The setting combines collaborative office-based work with periodic on-site engagement at federal, industrial, or medical facilities

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/hr.
