Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and develop structures, subassemblies, and mechanical components of truck and trailer bodies or ambulances using CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD Inventor.
• Create detailed 3D models of sheet metal parts, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerances and material specifications.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses (structural, load, and performance) to validate designs.
• Support production through technical drawings, BOMs, process documentation, and engineering change management.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, purchasing, and quality departments to ensure design intent is maintained through production.
• Review and improve existing designs for manufacturability, cost efficiency, and durability.
• Research materials, components, and manufacturing methods for potential implementation in future designs.
• Participate in prototype builds and testing to evaluate design performance and validate design changes.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and customer standards.
• Provide technical support for field issues and product improvement initiatives.
• Essential Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of prior work experience within a manufacturing setting outside of college or internships.
• Proficiency in Solid Edge and SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience with Epicor ERP.
• Ability to responsibly handle confidential information.
• Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, fabrication methods, and structural analysis.
• Knowledge of materials (steel, aluminum, composites) and their applications in vehicle manufacturing.
• Understanding of structural adhesives and their uses.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and standards.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of High Point, NC.

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
