Job Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for maintaining effective mechanical design bases for transformer layouts and providing technical expertise to both internal and external customers. The role involves reviewing assigned projects, comparing customer specifications to other design data, and noting any inconsistencies or special requirements.
Responsibilities
- Systematically review the mechanical design rules of all products to ensure customer needs are met while maintaining organizational cost and reliability goals. Define customer requirements, perform detailed analysis of loads and stresses, materials, and manufacturing processes to determine conformity.
- Provide recommendations, plan, and execute approved projects that enhance product competitiveness in collaboration with manufacturing, purchasing, and other functions.
- Identify, plan, and execute projects to deliver new product designs and extensions of current products through inter-departmental team efforts.
- Develop and recommend solutions to complex and unusual order-related requirements to manage risk.
- Document the rationale for mechanical designs and provide rules for executing specific product designs.
- Provide technical expertise and training in mechanical design, stress analysis, and manufacturing processes.
- Understand and interpret product scope, quality standards, and industry standards to ensure proper design and application of transformer and substation products.
- Support Marketing in bid preparation by interpreting product scope and applying transformer and substation products innovatively to meet customer needs.
- Act as project leader on assigned projects when required.
- Consult with Marketing and customers to explore areas of product expansion and refinement.
- Resolve production and customer problems by collaborating with engineering, manufacturing quality assurance, field service, and purchasing personnel and vendors.
- Proficiency in Creo/Pro-E with a minimum of 2 years of design experience.
- Experience of at least 2 years in the motors, generators, switchgear, or electromechanical industry.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design, stress analysis, and manufacturing processes.
- Associate's Degree in Mechanical Design or a related field.
The work environment involves both office-based duties and hands-on interaction with manufacturing, which is performed on-site. The department comprises 25 mechanical engineers, 15 electrical engineers, and 15 control systems individuals, allowing for diverse collaboration and communication with the production floor.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
