Job Description

As a Microbiological Lab Analyst, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of food, beverage, and environmental samples. You will be responsible for conducting microbiological testing and analysis, data management, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Receive, log, and label incoming samples in compliance with chain-of-custody procedures.
• Verify sample integrity and storage conditions upon arrival.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative testing for pathogens and indicator organisms using qPCR or ELFA technologies.
• Assist in conducting shelf-life studies, challenge studies, and environmental monitoring analyses.
• Prepare, dilute, and plate samples using standard ISO, BAM, USDA-FSIS, and FDA methods.
• Record all necessary lab data and verify accuracy before releasing client pathogen reports.
• Communicate findings to senior staff and assist with client inquiries when required.
• Follow all laboratory safety protocols, including PPE use and biosafety level requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-free workspace.
• Adhere to ISO quality management standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Operate general laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Assist with proficiency testing and participate in internal training programs.
• Support special projects, including new product testing.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including pipetting and aseptic technique.
• Knowledge of microbiology and PCR.
• Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy.
• Ability to adapt to workflow changes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in basic microbiology testing on food.
• Knowledge of titrations.
• 1-2 years of experience with a degree or 4-5 years without a degree.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small microbiology testing lab where samples are run to generate data for clients. The environment is laid back, and the workflow can fluctuate depending on client demands. The position requires working a rotating shift from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cranston, RI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
