Job Description
The Lab Technician performs and verifies physical testing of products at key stages of the production process to ensure they meet established laboratory specifications. This role operates and maintains a variety of laboratory testing instruments and collaborates closely with production personnel by communicating test results promptly and escalating issues when necessary. Responsibilities
- Perform and verify physical testing of products at designated stages of the production process in accordance with laboratory specifications and quality standards.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory testing equipment, including tensiometer, thickness gauge, scales, flame chamber, radiofrequency welders, hot air welders, gloss meter, colorimeter, die press, oven, heated water bath, and other assigned instrumentation.
- Accurately record, analyze, and interpret test data to support quality control and production decisions.
- Communicate test results promptly and clearly to production line personnel to support efficient and accurate manufacturing processes.
- Escalate unresolved quality issues, abnormal test results, and equipment malfunctions to supervision in a timely manner.
- Follow established laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality control guidelines at all times.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying potential process or testing enhancements within the lab and production environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and potentially R&D or pilot plant personnel, to ensure product quality and consistency.
- At least 1 year of laboratory experience in a quality control, chemistry, or related lab environment.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to perform physical product testing in accordance with laboratory specifications.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory testing equipment and instruments.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording and interpreting test results.
- Effective communication skills to relay test results and issues to production line personnel and supervision.
- Ability to follow established procedures, safety guidelines, and quality control protocols.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; a degree in chemistry is a strong plus.
- Experience in quality control within a manufacturing industry setting.
- Exposure to or interaction with R&D laboratories and pilot plants is a plus.
- Familiarity with materials used across multiple industries is beneficial.
- Ability to work independently on a fixed shift schedule while collaborating effectively with production teams.
This role is based in a manufacturing laboratory environment that is described as very clean, including the production floor. The position follows a 3rd shift schedule from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on a 2-2-3-3 rotation, providing a consistent and predictable work pattern. The work involves regular use of laboratory testing equipment such as tensiometers, thickness gauges, scales, flame chambers, radiofrequency and hot air welders, gloss meters, colorimeters, die presses, ovens, heated water baths, and other instruments. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wooster, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.50 - $24.50/hr.
