Job Description
As a HIL Engineer, you will collaborate with a cross-functional engineering team to verify and validate embedded software for complex machinery. You will build deep expertise in electrical and electronic systems, including powertrain, steering, braking, and implement subsystems. Working primarily on a dSPACE test bench, you will perform subsystem and integration testing to ensure high-quality software delivery for internal and external customers.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with team leads, machine system coordinators, and electronic system design engineers to define testing priorities and determine appropriate test coverage.
- Troubleshoot software and system issues identified on proving grounds and at customer sites, working closely with engineering stakeholders to resolve problems.
- Work with system engineers to understand machine feature requirements and translate them into detailed test plans for embedded software integration testing.
- Implement test plans on dSPACE HIL benches, execute tests, perform regression testing, and document test results clearly and accurately.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts to improve the efficiency, repeatability, and coverage of HIL testing activities.
- Use CAN-based data acquisition tools and network protocols to support software integration testing and diagnostic activities.
- Switch out, wire, and troubleshoot electrical components on HIL test benches to ensure reliable test setups and accurate test execution.
- Communicate technical information, test progress, and issues effectively to team members and other stakeholders.
- Organize and manage multiple testing tasks, maintaining clear priorities and meeting project timelines in an agile environment.
- 0–2 years of experience in scripting for automated testing in a HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) environment.
- Good working knowledge of dSPACE hardware and tools such as ControlDesk and AutomationDesk, with the ability to operate dSPACE benches independently.
- Good working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink for I/O simulation of sensor components and plant modeling.
- Good working knowledge of CAN, J1939, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and other datalink protocols used for software integration testing.
- Experience using CAN-based data acquisition tools (such as Vector CANape or equivalent) for data logging and analysis.
- Hands-on experience switching out and troubleshooting electrical components on test benches used for HIL testing, including wiring and component-level diagnostics.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information clearly to various stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
- Experience with automated test scripting in environments commonly used with HIL and MATLAB/Simulink-based workflows.
- Familiarity with validation processes for embedded software in complex electro-mechanical systems.
- Interest in working with new technologies and continuously improving test methods and tools.
- Ability to adapt to agile development and testing practices.
You will work in an agile engineering environment focused on verification and validation of embedded software for complex machinery. The role centers on a dSPACE HIL test bench setup, using tools such as dSPACE ControlDesk, AutomationDesk, MATLAB/Simulink, and CAN-based data acquisition tools like Vector CANape or similar. Collaboration with system engineers and other technical stakeholders is frequent, and communication is direct and team-oriented. The environment emphasizes long-term opportunities, exposure to new technologies, and continuous improvement of testing practices. Work is primarily lab- and office-based, involving both software-focused tasks and hands-on interaction with electrical components and test benches.
