This position is a unique blend of Heavy Test Engineering and IT Systems Administration, specifically focused on managing a massive cluster of over 1,000 Virtual Machines (VMs) that power Caterpillar's autonomous hauling technology.
Core Responsibilities
- Test Strategy & Execution: Develop, document, and execute comprehensive test plans to validate autonomous truck software and fleet management systems.
- SIL Testing: Utilize Software in the Loop (SIL) methodologies to test complex integrated systems before they hit the field.
- Virtualization Management: Self-administer a dedicated cluster of ~1,000 VMs using VMWare. This includes creating new VMs, managing backups, and ensuring environment stability.
- System Troubleshooting: Debug complex software issues across Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
- Network Infrastructure: Work within isolated VLANs and segmented networks to ensure secure and efficient data movement.
- Modernization: Assist in upgrading the environment to Windows Server 2022.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a Test Engineering or similar technical role.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or related).
- Testing Proficiency: Proven track record of developing and executing test plans and performing deep-dive debugging.
- SIL Expertise: At least 2 years of experience with Software in the Loop (SIL) testing, ideally within complex, large-scale systems.
- IT/Virtualization: Direct experience with VMWare for VM administration.
- Communication: Exceptional communication skills are mandatory; you must be able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and explain technical hurdles clearly.
- OS: Windows Server (up to 2022), Linux.
- Platform: MineStar Fleet, Command for Hauling.
- Infrastructure: Segmented Networks, Isolated VLANs, Server Clusters.
