Job Title: Histologist

Job Description

The Histologist will, under limited supervision, perform technical procedures in the IHC/Histology laboratory. Routine tasks include specimen processing, specimen embedding, FFPE sectioning, frozen sectioning, and staining. The role also involves performing immunohistochemical and histological procedures, assay development to ensure optimal staining conditions for antibodies, and participation in other research activities.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain general laboratory equipment including analytical balance, pH meter, tissue processor, embedding center, microtome, cryostat, and autostainers.
• Record keeping and documentation of all laboratory procedures to ensure quality control standards are being met.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all equipment and tests, including maintaining proper documentation; conduct annual review of all SOPs.
• Perform routine special stains per established procedures and histology standards.
• Utilize technical and troubleshooting skills and strengths to quickly and efficiently complete projects.
• Work as part of a project team to complete projects, which may last from 2-6 months or longer.
• Attend and contribute to project team meetings.
• Assist in organizing work and storage space and contribute to general lab upkeep.

Essential Skills

• HT ASCP Certification Required (Bachelor's or Associate's degree).
• 0 to 3 years of experience in animal and human research using histology skills such as embedding, sectioning, and staining.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• ASCP certification in histology.
• Experience with immunohistochemistry.
• Experience in assay development.
• Adaptable to change and ability to handle pressure.
• Supportive of team and willingness to assist when needed.

Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8am-4:30pm or 9am-5pm. The Histologist will collaborate with a team of scientists, pathologists, project managers, and 10 lab assistants. The work culture emphasizes teamwork, support, and collaboration, with a strong focus on helping each other achieve goals.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $35.00/hr.
