Gis Technician

Actalent is partnering with a major member‑owned electric utility in Virginia to support essential GIS operations that keep power flowing to local communities. We’re looking for a GIS Technician to join a highly collaborative team responsible for maintaining accurate data that drives electric distribution, asset management, and outage response.

This position centers on hands‑on production GIS work—ensuring the utility’s system‑of‑record remains precise, dependable, and ready to support real‑time operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Update and maintain electric distribution GIS data, including poles, lines, devices, services, and related assets

• Convert as‑built drawings, plats, and field notes into high‑quality GIS data

• Perform data editing, validation, and QA/QC to maintain accuracy and integrity

• Provide timely GIS updates that support day‑to‑day operations and outage response

• Work with engineers, operations personnel, and field crews to resolve data discrepancies

• Create basic maps and GIS deliverables for internal teams

• Follow established GIS standards, workflows, and documentation practices

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geospatial Science, Geography, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

• 1–3 years of practical GIS experience

• Strong proficiency with Esri tools (ArcGIS Pro / ArcMap; ArcGIS Online or Enterprise a plus)

• Experience working with utility or linear infrastructure datasets (electric, telecom, water, gas, etc.)

• High attention to detail and the ability to thrive in an accuracy‑focused production environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting electric utility GIS or similar regulated infrastructure

• Familiarity with as‑built processing and field‑to‑GIS workflows

• Exposure to AutoCAD or interpreting engineering drawings

• Background working with engineering, operations, or field teams

Work Environment

• Full‑time, Monday–Friday

• Onsite role supporting operational needs

• Work contributes directly to critical infrastructure and community reliability

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fredericksburg, VA.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Fredericksburg,VA.
