GIS Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled GIS Technician to support the design, development, and automation of GIS solutions for telecommunications infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for creating constructible fiber network designs, managing spatial data, integrating GIS with enterprise systems, and supporting both rural and commercial telecom projects.

Responsibilities

• Design and draw plans for telecommunications cables in rural and commercial areas.
• Size serving boundaries using GIS address data.
• Layout feeder routes, distribution routes, and drops to premises.
• Determine fiber allocations and review field staking sheets.
• Determine the best construction methods for design.
• Produce constructible design packages using GIS-based software such as ArcMap.
• Provide CAD support for fiber systems including permit plan and profile drawings, construction drawings, and conduit designs.

Essential Skills

• 3 years of experience with AutoCAD and Civil GIS Mapping.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS platforms including Desktop, Pro, and mobile data collection tools.
• Professional experience with GIS in telecom, utility, or civil engineering industries.
• Knowledge of fiber optic design and network planning.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• GIS certifications such as Esri Technical Certification or GISCI.
• Experience with web GIS development, including ArcGIS API for JavaScript or Leaflet.
• Experience with CAD tools for telecom or utility design.
• Adaptability to new tools, methodologies, and project requirements.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Experience with SQL and spatial databases for managing and querying geospatial data.
• Understanding of telecommunications networks, including fiber optic and wireless infrastructure.
• Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Work Environment

Work in a team of 4 engineers and 8 mapping designers/drafters. Business casual attire is expected. Office hours are from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with all work conducted in-office for the first 4 weeks to establish a clear understanding of project expectations and strong relationships with the team. The office features natural light and updated technology, providing a comfortable working environment. Situated in a quaint town with a charming old-town vibe, the location offers a pleasant atmosphere for meetings and collaboration.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Blair, NE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
